JB Recommendation Letter Tips

Have an updated resume with list of activities and accomplishments to share.

Know the due date for the letter and ask in advance. Make sure you provide the specifics of what you are trying to accomplish with the letter. Try to give the person a minimum of 2-3 weeks to write the letter. 

Only ask people that know you well and will give you a positive recommendation. 

Provide them with a stamped/addressed envelope if it needs to be mailed or provide the link/email address to send to.

Resume Tips

Research sample resumes and  occupations to find wording and descriptions of job responsibilities. For example: ​Restaurant Server
Responsibilities

• Greet and escort customers to their tables.
• ​Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g. about portions, ingredients or potential food allergies)
• Prepare tables by setting up linens, silverware and glasses.
• Inform customers about the day's specials.
• Offer menu recommendations upon request.

Avoid using resume templates that have you fill in sections and then the finished product is not a free download. Many sites will walk you through resume information and then require you to pay to download and use the final product. Google docs has resume templates that are free to use. 

*Have a professional email address! Create a gmail and start compiling copies of documents you will need after high school in your own google drive. ​
